Switchfly Holiday Trend Report: Upgrades Welcome

More than half of Americans would want to travel during holiday season and one third of the nation’s adults admit that media would influence their choice of holiday travel destination, according to Switchfly research.

The top five travel destinations for the holidays are:
1.     Family home (19%)
2.     Going to a sunny beach (15%)
3.     In-laws’ home (12%)
4.     A destination known for great food (10%)

5.     A destination with a casino, like Las Vegas (9%) 

Switchfly also says its research reveals:

  • Top Travel Gifts: First-class upgrades (34%) and foreign travel destinations (31%) are top-ranking travel gifts this year
  • Influences on Holiday Travel: (38%) of Americans admit that the media influences their choice of destination, with featured locations on TV shows (18%) being the most popular media influence on holiday travel destinations this year
  • The Benefits of Loyalty Reward Programs: 67 percent of Americans believe that travel loyalty programs would help people get the most out of travel during the holiday season
  • Most Popular Travel Personalities: Americans say they most identify with funny man Chris Pratt or the silent Blue Man Group

The survey was conducted online by Harris Poll on behalf of Switchfly among 2,008 US adults. Among the trend results discovered, three quarters (77%) of Americans travel via flight and more than half of the nation (65%) say they would be excited to receive an air travel gift for the holidays.
