Travel Distribution Crisis Seminar Scheduled

PhoCusWright is entering the ongoing disputes between airlines, GDSs and OTAs over travel distribution with an online presentation January 26. The dispute over distribution has flared up again – this time into all-out war, according to the firm.

“Accusations and dire predictions are flying fast and furious: the GDSs' days are numbered; airlines are anti-consumer; the end of comparison-shopping is at hand,” PhoCusWright said.

In the session entitled Clearing The Air: How The Airline-Intermediary Battles Will Reshape Travel Distribution, PhoCusWright analysts will attempt to unbundle the hyperbole around airline direct connects, segment fees and merchandising.

PhoCusWright presenters include: Bob Offutt, senior technology coordinator and editorial director of the innovation edition; Carroll Rheem, director of research; and Susan Steinbrink, senior research and corporate market analyst. The session will be moderated by Douglas Quinby, senior director of research.

PhoCusWright will try to offer clarity on what distribution battle is really about, what it means for all players in the travel distribution chain, and what the future holds. The presentation costs $199.
