July 12, 2006 By: Joe Pike Travel Agent

The number of occupied rooms per night will reach a record 3.28 million in the U.S. this week, up from 3.14 million in 2005, PricewaterhouseCoopers predicts, according to American City Business Journals. The Hawaii Visitors and Convention Bureau says that many occupied rooms won't necessarily translate to record national hotel occupancy, according to the story. Smith Travel Research separately projects that U.S. hotel occupancy this year will be 71.5 percent, the highest since 72.1 percent in 2000. Hotel supply has increased by 7.7 percent since 2000.
