According to recent industry research, the hotel industry is off to a strong start in 2014, with recovery in lodging demand, a gain in revenue per available room (RevPAR), a rebound in hotel construction and a gain in average daily rate (ADR).

Agencies' First Quarter Air Sales Up

The consolidated dollar value of airline tickets sold by U.S.-based travel agencies rose 4.55 percent year-over-year in the first quarter of 2014 compared to the same period last year, totaling $24 billion versus $23 billion in 2013.

Travel agents looking to keep their website visible on mobile devices should take heed: Google continues to be the dominant search engine on the platform. According to a recent digital marketing survey by the Rimm-Kaufman Group, in Q1 2014 Google generated 87 percent of mobile organic search visits, as compared to 81 percent of organic search visits overall.
