The Week in Stats: Top Air Travel and Trip Trends of 2014

This week in travel stats saw the release of several air travel-related polls that surveyed topics ranging from traveler satisfaction to the year’s top holiday vacation destinations.

Business Travel's ROI

CWT Solutions Group, the consulting arm of Carlson Wagonlit Travel, has released its latest research into the return on investment of business travel.

‘The value of business travel: The travelers’ perspective’ surveyed 10,000 traveler respondents to determine how travelers view the ROI of a trip, and to offer guidance on reducing the number of unsatisfactory business trips.

Travelers were asked to measure the success of their last trip, with 88 percent of all trips scoring successful. Meanwhile, 9.5 percent of trips were seen as average, with no significant benefit compared to cost, and 2.5 percent of trips were deemed unsatisfactory.

Airlines' Business Decisions Make Travelers Most Frustrated

A recent survey conducted by AAA Travel revealed that when it comes to travelers’ greatest preoccupations, business decisions made by airlines, ranked at the top of the list. The breakdown of air travel frustrations is as follows: added fees (27 percent), lack of leg room on planes (27 percent), flight delays and layovers (15 percent) and the airport security process (12 percent).

Top 25 Christmas Travel Destinations

For a look at what's sparking consumer interest this Christmas travel season, Priceline has released a list of the 25 most popular Christmas travel destinations, based on advance reservations. 

Las Vegas takes the number one spot on the list of top 25 destinations for the December holiday period, followed by Orlando, New York City, Orange County and b, all of which held on to a top five ranking from 2013 with the exception of San Diego, which replaced this year’s eighth place holder, Miami. The city to watch that made the biggest leap this year, however, was Fort Lauderdale, which moved 31 spots from 43 in 2013 to 12 in 2014.
