Trinidad to Get Hyatt Regency, Flights from JFK

November 27, 2007 By: Travel Agent Central Contributor Travel Agent

Russell George, general manager of the Hyatt Regency Trinidad, spoke in person with Travel Agent about the property’s long-awaited opening at the end of December.

He says agents can now book the resort for travel starting January 4. The $375 million complex will have 428 guest rooms, including a Presidential Suite on the 22nd floor, overlooking the water. The property is geared primarily toward business clientele, with 43,000 square feet of meeting and function space, including a 16,000-square-foot Regency Ballroom, a 10,000-square-foot multipurpose exhibit room, 12 breakout rooms and two boardrooms. What separates this property from many other business-oriented hotels is that it also includes a 9,000-square-foot spa with six treatment suites.

For leisure travelers, hotel staff will assist in setting up tours to nearby Tobago, known more for its relaxing and quiet atmosphere. Agents receive a 10 percent commission and can call Charlaine Montano, director of sales, for more information at 868-625-9266.

Because of the lucrative oil and gas business out of Trinidad, George says, the destination’s main market is Houston. But with new flights from New York on the horizon, he expects that to change a bit. As of December 20, Delta will operate nonstop flights three times a week from Kennedy Airport to Port of Spain, which is about 30 minutes from the Hyatt Regency.
