Avis to Offer Electric Cars in UK

March 2, 2010 By: Jena Tesse Fox

Car rental company Avis is reportedly planning to offer UK customers electric vehicles from 2011, following a partnership deal with the Renault-Nissan Alliance. The cars are believed to produce "zero emissions" during use, although the sustainability of electric vehicles (which take their energy from carbon-fueld power plants) is still under scrutiny.

The deal follows a similar announcement from Hertz early last month, with the rival rental company planning to offer the Nissan LEAF in Japan, the U.S. and Europe as early as next year.

All Avis customers will also have access to environmental driving tips to help lower their emissions and can choose a vehicle from an ever-increasing green fleet, including hundreds of vehicles that run on fuels other than gasoline or diesel.
