October 18, 2013 By: Newswire

A map of the new itineraryNative-owned small-ship cruise line Alaskan Dream Cruises is offering  new itinerary for the 2014 season: three departures of the nine-day “Point Adolphus, Frederick Sound & Stephens Passage Explorer” cruise.

The “Point Adolphus, Frederick Sound & Stephens Passage Explorer” cruise was developed to add an additional day of exploration in the northern waterways of the Inside Passage to the eight-day “Alaska’s Glacier Bay & Island Adventure” cruise. Starting at $3,399, cruise departures on May 15, May 16 and August 11 will sail round-trip from Sitka, calling at the Tlingit village of Kake; Petersburg, a small fishing community; Alaska’s state capital Juneau; and the company’s exclusive Orca Point Lodge and Hobart Bay adventure camp destinations. Full days will also be spent cruising in Glacier Bay National Park and Preserve; viewing glaciers and marine life in Tracy Arm Fjord; and whale watching in Point Adolphus.

Alaskan Dream Cruises will also offer a dedicated 2014 family cruise after their debut of the family-only departures in the 2013 season. The nine-day “True Alaska Family Cruise” will sail roundtrip from Sitka on July 19. Staffed with expedition leaders for both adults and kids, the cruise offers  learning opportunities ranging from kayaking and Native crafts to scavenger hunts and game nights. Families learn about geology, wildlife identification, nautical navigation and knot tying.

“It’s important to us, as Alaskans, to provide our passengers with not just quintessential Alaska adventures, but also local experiences,” said Michael Wien, Alaskan Dream Cruises vice president of sales and marketing. “We want to share our home and culture with visitors in an enriching way.”

Expedition leaders and Native cultural interpreters travel on board the company’s ships offering presentations and informal talks on wildlife, glaciers and local culture.

Alaskan Dream Cruises includes planned shore excursions at each of its destinations at no additional cost. Depending on the location, activities could include cultural dance performances, a tour of a salmon hatchery, walking tours that include local art galleries, sea kayaking, ATV rides and more. In addition, the cruise line stocked each of its three vessels with small skiffs last year to allow for off-ship exploration of glaciers and wildlife.

On-ship activities include daily educational presentations by expedition leaders, as well as social hours with hors d’oeuvres. Meals are prepared to highlight local ingredients and wild Alaska seafood and can be paired with Alaska spirits.
