Alaska's New La Baleine Café Targets Local Cuisine

The La Baleine Café opens on Alaska’s remote Kenai Peninsula, in the tiny town of Homer, under the Dixon-family operated hospitality brand Within The Wild Adventure Company, enticing travelers who enjoy supporting local markets.

The Café is headed up by executive pastry chef Mandy Dixon, who will use locally sourced ingredients to strengthen the local economy, and neighborly relationships, in addition to providing fresh meals to her guests.  She officially opens the doors to the seaside Café on May 9th, the day after she competes in the Great Alaska Seafood Cook-Off. Throughout the summer, the Café will be serving breakfast and lunch.

Notable menu items include a daily frittata with seasonal vegetables and an Alaskan salmon bowl, with brown rice and homemade miso ginger dressing.

“Within The Wild Adventure Company” owns various properties throughout the Alaskan wilderness, including the home goods boutique RusticWild next door to the Cafe, the Tutka Bay Lodge and the Cooking School at Tutka Bay, on Kachemak Bay.  The family also owns the Winterlake Lodge, a more secluded wilderness retreat near Anchorage, Alaska.

A portion of the proceeds from the Café will go to Cook Inletkeeper, a community based non-profit organization with a mission to protect the habitat of Cook Inlet, Alaska.
