Upcoming tours are being offered in Alaska, including Bald Mountain Air, which is now taking trips to Alaska’s Arctic coast to observe polar bears in their natural habitat.
The day trips departing from Anchorage take travelers on a two-hour flight to the Native village of Kaktovik on Barter Island. Travelers will view bears by boat and vehicle led by an experienced Inupiat guide.
The King Air departs Anchorage at 8 a.m., arriving in Kaktovic on Barter Island around 10 a.m., flying over the Alaska Range, Brooks Range and Yukon Flats.
Tours run on weekends or by special request for groups of four to 10 people mid-September to late October. Cost for the tour includes round-trip flight from Anchorage on the executive-style King Air, six to eight hours of on-ground guided bear viewing and dinner in Kaktovik.
Furthermore, the Tsaina Lodge just outside of Valdez, reopened its doors after six years due to making improvements and updates.
The lodge now offers visitors 24 rooms, including a fine-dining restaurant and bar area offering local cuisine, views of the surrounding peaks and Worthington Glacier, a guest locker room to store skis and boards and a spa.
Skiers and snowboarders with a Thompson Pass may access Tsaina Lodge's Valdez Heli-Ski Guides, the longest running heli-ski guide service in Alaska. In addition, the lodge is only 20 minutes from Valdez.
Locals and visitors can also partake in the Alaskan Food Tours in downtown Juneau while sampling Alaskan cuisine at restaurants. For $99, food tour guides will take guests on a three-hour culinary tour through the streets of Juneau.
The tour provides experiences such as dining at a waterfront restaurant and tasting locally made fudge while sightseeing in the city. In addition, downtown Juneau is home to a variety of local attractions, shops, restaurants and accommodations.
Lastly, the American Bald Eagle Foundation and Haines residents will host the 2012 Alaska Bald Eagle Festival from Nov. 14 to 18, 2012. Festival activities are held at the American Bald Eagle Foundation, located at the corner of Second Avenue and the Haines Highway.
Participants will attend photography workshops, raptor presentations by the American Bald Eagle Foundation. Guest speakers and presentations, artist of the year demonsstrations and carving workshops are scheduled.
Daily buses and vans will carry visitors safely to the Alaska Bald Eagle Preserve to witness the annual "Gathering of the Eagles." The festival includes evening entertainment to round out your festival experience to include a chocolate extravaganza.
