April 25, 2011 By: George Dooley Travel Agent

Despite a powerful storm that moved through the St. Louis area on Friday, April 22, that temporarily closed Lambert St. Louis International Airport, St. Louis’ tourism infrastructure was otherwise unaffected by the storm, according to the St. Louis Convention & Visitors Commission (CVC).

“As you are aware, a storm hit St. Louis and created substantial damage in a narrow path that included Lambert St. Louis International Airport,” said Kathleen Ratcliffe, president of the CVC. “We are incredibly fortunate that there was no loss of life and the process of clean up and repair is well underway.”

Lambert St. Louis International Airport began conducting flight operations on Saturday, April 23, and is now operating at full capacity with the exception of Cape Air, which will resume service on Tuesday, April 26. Customers should contact their carrier for flight status updates, the CVC advised.

In addition, the CVC reported that the Gateway Arch, Saint Louis Zoo, St. Louis Science Center, Missouri Botanical Garden and Six Flags are all open for business during normal business hours.

It also said that regular updates were being posted on the St. Louis CVC website,, Facebook and on Twitter (@explorestlouis).
