Report: Four Zika Cases in Florida Potentially Spread by Local Mosquitos

Health officials in Florida reported two more cases of the Zika virus that may have been spread by local mosquitos, bringing the number of potential local cases to four, the Miami Herald reports. The cases remain unconfirmed as health department officials, assisted by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, continue their investigation. 

Thus far 381 people in Florida have contracted the Zika virus this year, according to the Miami Herald. In all 17 new Zika infections were reported in Florida on Wednesday, a new record for most cases in a single day. 

Health department officials have contacted obstetricians in the affected Miami-Dade and Broward neighborhoods, the Miami Herald said, and have begun distributing Zika prevention kits with insect repellant, bed netting, mosquito larvae-killing tablets and more.
