Better News from Hawaii's Air Travel Scene

April 14, 2010 By: Jena Tesse Fox

HawaiiAfter yesterday's story about two airlines decreasing their services to Hawaii, we received an email from a representative of the Hawaii Visitors and Convention Bureau (HVCB).

"While the story itself is accurate," David McNeil wrote, "the headline apparently misled a number of people who interpreted it to mean that there is a general decline in air service to Hawaii. The fact is domestic lift to Hawaii is expected to increase by more than 500,000 new air seats by the end of this year. By the end of 2010, that will represent an overall increase of 8.5 percent which is very good news for the Islands."

In more good news from Hawaii's air travel scene, Alaska Airlines announced yesterday that it will add a second nonstop flight between Portland, Oregon and Hawaii, with year-round, daily service to Honolulu beginning September 20. The new flights will be available for booking as of tomorrow. The airline already flies between Portland and Kahului, Maui.
