Oahu
Oahu kicks off the Independence Day celebrations a day early on July 3 at the Aloha Tower Marketplace, with entertainment, games and food from booths and the onsite restaurants. Entertainment begins at 5 p.m. with the big fireworks finale planned for 8:45pm.This fireworks display has traditionally been one of the largest on Oahu.
On July 4 itself, Hawaii’s largest fireworks display is sponsored by Ala Moana Center. (The event has been named among the top 25 shows in the country.) It's also the only fireworks show in Hawaii to launch from three separate platforms. The show, which will take place on Ala Moana Beach Park, will begin at 8:30 p.m. Open seating will be available on Ala Moana Center’s Makai-Ewa parking deck on a first come, first served basis.
Maui
The Maui Chamber of Commerce will be hosting the 12th Annual 4th of July Fireworks Celebration in Lahaina. For an old-fashioned Independence Day celebration, come down and listen to a variety of bands play in Lahaina free. A fireworks display lighting the night sky over Lahaina's roadstead is scheduled for 8 pm, hosted by Maui Chamber of Commerce. Fireworks can be viewed from charter boats in Lahaina Harbor and on land throughout Lahaina Town.
The Maui Invitational Music Festival will feature the Maui Community Band performing patriotic favorites and popular Hawaiian music on the Lahaina Library lawn, ending with a fireworks display.
Big Island
Starting at 5:30pm, the Kailua-Kona 4th of July Parade route travels from Kekuaokalani Gym down Ali’i Drive, finishing at Walua Road past Coconut Grove. Following the parade, Kailua-Kona presents a fireworks show launched from a barge in Kailua Bay. The fireworks show is set to start at 8pm.
And here's a great suggestion for eco-conscious celebrants: The Mauna Lani Bay Hotel protects young honu (sea turtles) in preparation for their release into the ocean. Turtle Independence Day includes a traditional Hawaiian ceremony as the turtles are transported from the hotel’s salt water ponds to the ocean. This event is free and open to the public. A barbeque will be available from 10 a.m. until noon with food and drink available for purchase.
