Travel Agent breaks down the five hottest new offerings for thrill-seeking Millennials heading to the Aloha State this fall and beyond. In no particular order, here are five pitches to sell to the client looking to be challenged during an adventure to Hawaii.
Bike Volcano's Summit-to-Sea Bicycle Adventure
Tell adventurous clients to join Bike Volcano on a unique summit-to-sea bicycle adventure to Kilauea volcano's active lava flow.
The journey begins in Hawaii Volcanoes National Park with a challenging oceanside bicycle ride. Bike Volcano’s experienced guide next takes guests on a brief hike to see and feel the heat of the fresh lava. Post-hike, guests will visit the park's famous Nahuku (aka, Thurston) Lava Tube and witness Kilauea volcano's erupting summit crater, Halemaumau.
Hiking Along a Cliff Summit With Kauai Hiking Tours
Visitors seeking adventure and off-the-beaten-path experiences can trek to beautiful scenic lookouts, hike forested trails, and even walk along a cliff summit with Kauai Hiking Tours. The outdoor adventure company’s mission of “sharing Kauai’s beauty with aloha” is integrated into each of its hiking tours, backpacking trips and driving tours, which are designed to appeal to all skill levels and age groups. Kauai Hiking Tours’ expert guides offer guests local and historical knowledge, and an understanding of the sacred and fragile nature of the island’s landscapes.
New Zipline Allows Guests to Soar Above Waterfalls
Outfitters Kauai’s newest attraction, the Kahuna Zipline Trek, allows guests to soar above forest canopy, rivers, waterfalls and the famous Kipu Ranch sites where Jurassic Park, Pirates of the Caribbean, Raiders of the Lost Ark and The Descendants were filmed.
Each of the Kahuna Zipline Trek’s six lines is unique and thrilling. There are no beginner lines on the trek, which includes a 1,800-foot line boasting the longest airtime of any zipline on Kauai.
Outfitters Kauai also offers a variety of fun activities for adventurous visitors, including kayaking and standup paddle boarding on the Huleia River, ATV tours at Kipu Ranch and a water zip into a natural lava rock swimming pool.
KapohoKine Adventures Restarts Lava Expedition Tours
On July 4, KapohoKine Adventures restarted its Lava Expedition tours, taking visitors to see the red molten lava of the Kilauea Volcano.
From the Puna District on the east side, the company’s headquarters and home to some of the best lava viewing locations, clients will be driven as close as possible before setting off on foot to find the most recent surface outbreaks and ocean entries.
Meeting at the company's storefront in Hilo, clients are then driven as close as possible to flow sites before setting off on foot to find the most recent surface outbreaks and ocean entries. On the trek, hikers look for lava tube system skylights and surface flows, and listen for the crackling and hissing of escaping gasses and liquid rock, which accompany the lava's slow march to the sea.
The tour provides transportation, guide, military-grade flashlights, walking sticks, sunblock, dinner and drinks. The tour is $209 per person from Kona/Waikoloa and $129 per person from Hilo.
Hawaii Forest & Trail Revives "Kilauea Lava Hike!"
Hawaii Forest & Trail has revived its "Kilauea Lava Hike!" The challenging trek covers more than six miles of rugged lava scape, with hikers accompanied by professional and experienced guides.
The activity begins at Hawaii Forest & Trail's Kona headquarters, with an additional guest pickup available at Queens' MarketPlace in Waikoloa. Following the 3.5-hour hike, guests are taken for a local-style dinner in Hilo.
Hawaii Forest & Trail's "Kilauea Lava Hike" is priced at $192 (plus tax) per person. The company rates the hike as difficult; guests should be able and prepared to hike on uneven and rocky terrain.
