Halekulani Exhibits Historic Hawaiian Photography

In celebration of its 30th Anniversary, Halekulani is pleased to present the Hawaii premiere of Photographs of Hawaii - Where Tradewinds Blow, featuring works by Caroline Haskins Gurrey and A.R. Gurrey, Jr.

Now on showcase at the hotel, the historic photographic exhibit is an exploration of Hawaii and its people at the dawn of the 20th Century. The specially curated presentation is from the private collection of Mark and Carolyn Blackburn.

Caroline Haskins Gurrey and her husband, Alfred Richard (A.R.) Gurrey Jr., are recognized for capturing and preserving rare historic images of Honolulu, its people and its landscape in the early 1900’s. A true portraitist, Caroline photographed award-winning portraits of Kamehameha students, while Alfred pioneered surf photography as it is known today.

Photographs of Hawaii - Where Tradewinds Blow will run at Halekulani through August 31 and is located along its promenade, next to House Without a Key. The exhibition is open daily from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. and admission is free of charge. A catalog of this special collection is available for purchase at the Halekulani Boutique.
