Visitor Industry Charity Walk Chairman and Waikiki Parc Hotel General Manager, Julie Arigo, and KCCN FM 100's Shannon Scott, cheer on more than 7,000 Oahu walkers with the McKinley High School cheerleaders at the Hawaii Prince Hotel Waikiki checkpoint.

The Hawaii Lodging & Tourism Association (HLTA) recently announced that its 35th Annual Visitor Industry Charity Walk raised a record-breaking $1,671,436.

“Our visitor industry works hard all year to put together this event that serves Hawaii’s non-profits and communities. I’m so proud of this record-setting Charity Walk by the people and friends of our visitor industry,” said Julie Arigo, this year’s Charity Walk chairman and general manager of Waikiki Parc Hotel, in a written release. “It’s a wonderful outpouring of kindness and kokua that exemplifies our aloha spirit. A big mahalo to all of the thousands of folks who participated and gave so generously.”

A total of 14,736 walkers on Kauai, Oahu, Molokai, Lanai, Maui and Hawaii Island participated in the fundraiser that generates monies for hundreds of local charities. Maui raised the most funds of any of the Islands for the third consecutive year with an impressive $701,716 – a record for the Island.

“A lot of heart goes into this event by Hawaii’s lodging industry and other members of our tourism community. We’re happy to know that the results of our collective efforts will make a positive difference to the hundreds of non-profits that support people in need across the state,” said George Szigeti, president of HLTA, in a written release.

Sponsored by the Hawai‘i Lodging & Tourism Association along with individual other lodging and travel partners, The Honolulu Star-Advertiser and COX Media Group Honolulu, the annual Visitor Industry Charity Walk is one of the largest fundraisers in the state, providing a wonderful opportunity for Hawaii’s visitor industry to collectively give back to its local communities. Since its inception in 1978, the Charity Walk has raised more than $26.3 million for Hawaii charities.
