Hawaii Room Rates on the Rise

Occupancy at Hawaii hotels rose by four percentage points last week, while room rates jumped 16 percent, according to a weekly report by Hospitality Advisors LLC and Smith Travel Research that was published in Pacific Business News.

Hawaii hotels were 77 percent full during the week that ended November 12, the report said. The average daily room rate was $196.78, which was 16.1 percent higher than the same week in 2010.

Hotels on Oahu, which hosted the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation Leaders’ Week meetings, were 80.9 percent occupied last week, one percentage point higher than a year ago. But room rates on the island rose 28.8 percent over last year, to an average $200.60 per night, according to the report.

Kauai saw the greatest increase in occupancy last week, where hotels were 68.8 percent occupied, 11.3 percentage points higher than last year. The average room rate on Kauai was $184.03, 2.7 percent higher than a year ago.
