March 30, 2009 By: Mark Rogers

Hawaii Superferry has announced that the Alakai departed Honolulu Harbor at 3:30 p.m.  Saturday for Mobile, AL. The Alakai’s 7,600-mile journey from Hawaii through the Panama Canal, directly to Mobile, will take approximately three weeks.

Alakai’s move to Mobile is to position her for future employment. Superferry doesn’t have a business opportunity in Hawaii for the foreseeable future as a result of the Supreme Court decision halting Superferry sailings in Hawaii until further review of environmental impact studies.
