Hawaii Tourism Takes a hit in August

The Honolulu Advertiser is reporting that when Hawaii tourism officials announce arrivals for August that they are likely to be down by a double-digit percentage. The main culprits are expensive airfares, a slowing U.S. mainland economy and traveler concerns about investments. State figures for passenger arrivals were off by about 14 percent for August. Tourism officials are also predicting a 15 percent shortfall in tourism revenues.
