Hawaiian Airlines Announces Big Summer ChangesApril 15, 2013 By: Newswire
Hawaiian Airlines, Hawai'i's biggest and longest-serving airline, will manufacture a new fleet of single-aisle A321neo planes to complement their existing fleet of twin-aisle B767 and A330 crafts, which fly long-distance between Hawai'i and the U.S. west coast.
Recently designed, state-of-the-art Pratt & Whitney engines will power the A321neos with an advanced gear system that reduces engine noise by 50%, decreases environmental emissions and substantially improves fuel efficiency, thereby lowering ticket prices.
“The new technology PurePower engines are part of Hawaiian's commitment to find new ways to reduce the cost of travel to the benefit of our customers and to our tourism-dependent community,” says Mark Dunkerley, Hawaiian’s president and CEO.
Hawaiian Airlines also plans to launch a new non-stop service between Honolulu and Beijing, China, by April 2014, the only non-stop service of its kind. The itinerary will operate three times a week from either hub and is predicted to result in a spike of $81 million in annual visitor expenditures.
"This new non-stop service will help to significantly grow visitor arrivals and expenditures from our highest spending visitor market," says Mike McCartney, president and CEO of the Hawai'i Tourism Authority (HTA).
Last, Hawaiian Airlines will discontinue its underperforming non-stop Manila service this summer. The airline will continue to accept reservations for travel prior to the discontinuation date, provided all travel is completed by August 1st, 2013.
