Hawaii's Hotel Numbers Increase in July

September 29, 2010 By: Jena Tesse Fox

The AP, Honolulu Star-Advertiser and other sources are citing a new report by Hospitality Advisors LLC that says hotel occupancy in Hawaii averaged 79.5 percent in July. This number is up from 68.8 percent in July 2009, a significant increase over last year's downturn.

The report also says the increase was consistent with the 11.7 percent increase in statewide visitor days reported by the Hawaii Tourism Authority.

The statewide average daily room rate increased by 2.3 percent to $180.98 for July, leading to a substantial 18.2 percent increase in statewide room revenues per available room, or RevPAR, to $143.88.

While the news is great for Hawaii, the report also notes the RevPAR was still 16.2 percent lower than the $171.74 RevPAR achieved in July 2006 — the record high for statewide July RevPAR.
