Honeymooning in Hawaii

Suites throughout the islands provide a great start to married life

Whether your clients are jetting to Hawaii for a honeymoon or staying on the islands following a destination wedding, they'll find a variety of romantic suites throughout the state. Alii suite at the Four Seasons Resort Lanai at Manele Bay


The Princeville Hotel, overlooking Hanalei Bay,
is romantic inside and out. Honeymooners should be directed to the Royal suite,
with its panoramic penthouse view of Hanalei Bay and the Pacific
. It features a living room, dining area, music room, master
bedroom, master bathroom, additional half-bath and full butler's kitchen. The
2,400-square-foot suite is fitted with imported, custom-designed furnishings,
silk walls and drapes, commissioned artwork, antiques and striking
black-and-white marble.

Big Island

At the expansive Hilton Waikoloa Village,
clients will have plenty of space to stretch out in the 3,000-square-foot
Presidential suite, which is six times the size of a standard room. There are
two bedrooms and two-and-a-half baths. One of the baths includes a sauna and a
whirlpool tub. There is also a small kitchen and living and dining areas, with
a table that seats eight. Views from the units and their lanai include the
mountains and the ocean, as well as the resort's canals and pools. The nightly

On Lanai, the newly upgraded and rebranded Four Seasons
Resort Lanai at Manele Bay has a versatile Alii
suite that can be booked as a one-, two- or three-bedroom unit. The suite
provides panoramic views of Hulopoe Bay and the Pacific;
couples can watch both sunrise and sunset from the oversized lanai, which is
furnished with daybeds, lounge chairs and a small dining set. Inside, the suite
has carved mahogany furnishings and velvets and silks in jewel and gold tones,
all imbued with Asian influences to create an atmosphere of opulence and
formality. The living area has oversized sofas, an entertainment center and
private bar. There's a pantry for light cooking and the dining area has a table
that seats eight. The master bedroom has a mahogany four-poster bed, dressing
area, walk-in closet and 40-inch flat-screen LCD TV.

Duke Kahanamoku suite at the Hilton Waikoloa Village

The versatile suite can be booked as a
one-bedroom/one-and-a-half-bath unit with 3,600 square feet, a
two-bedroom/two-and-a-half-bath unit with 4,274 square feet, or a three-bedroom/three-and-a-half-bath
unit with 5,228 square feet. Nightly rates start at $6,500, $7,340 and $8,940

Honeymooners can head to Oahu's North Shore and cocoon themselves in one of
the 46 upscale beach cottages adjoining the main hotel complex at the Turtle Bay Resort. The cottages,
which have exclusive concierge service, range from 740 to 850 square feet, with
Brazilian walnut floors, teak chairs, large marble bathrooms with two-person
deep-soak tubs, freestanding showers and enclosed toilets. Some cottages are
available as adjoining units with both king and double beds, especially suited

Couples looking for an oasis within a big resort may want to
consider one of the two Presidential suites in the Alii Tower of the Hilton Hawaiian
in Waikiki. The Mahele suite on
the 14th floor, and the Alii Suite on the 15th each have more than 1,800
interior square feet, as well as a 746-square-foot wraparound lanai with
oceanfront views. Suites have two bedrooms, three full bathrooms and an
oversize parlor that includes formal living and dining area. Past guests
include Bill Clinton, George H.W. Bush, Janet Jackson, John Legend and Britney
Spears. Guests who stay in the Alii Tower receive such
amenities as private concierge services, preferential reservations and seating
at resort restaurants, evening hors d'oeuvres and use of the tower's private
pool and fitness center.

A choice with definite cachet is the Vera Wang suite at the Halekulani.
This oceanfront suite was personally designed by Vera Wang and is accented with
elements she selected from her specialty collections, as well as furnishings
from Hawaii, Asia
and elsewhere in the Pacific. It can be used as a two-bedroom suite or as two
separate suites, because both have master bedrooms, a living room area, full
bath, walk-in closet and work area. The main suite includes a formal dining
room seating up to eight, as well as a personal chef and 24-hour butler
service. Other amenities include a 50-inch plasma TV and a TOTO Clayton
air-bath. The suite is on the second floor of the oceanfront hotel, with views
of Waikiki Beach
and Diamond Head. The rates are $5,000 per night

Princeville's Royal suite has views of Hanalei Bay

Also in the Waikiki mix is the King Kamehameha suite at the
romantic Royal Hawaiian, nicknamed the "Pink Palace."
Recent suite guests include Fergie of the Black Eyed Peas and Janet Jackson. A
highlight is its 1,014-square-foot lanai overlooking the hotel's Ocean Lawn,
with panoramic views of Waikiki Beach and Diamond Head.
It's a great vantage point from which to watch surfers by day, catch the
sunset, dine privately from the 24-hour room service menu, see the performances
at the Royal Luau on Monday evenings and listen to entertainment from the
hotel's Mai Tai Bar. Even the whirlpool tub in the bathroom has an ocean view.
The suite has koa-wood floors, a wet bar, Sheraton's Sweet Sleeper bed in the
master bedroom and one-and-a-half baths; guests can book the adjoining
Kamehameha bedroom for an additional bedroom and full bath.

At the Outrigger Waikiki on the beach, the suites to
recommend are the one-bedroom deluxe oceanfront corner suites. Each unit has a
living room, a bedroom, two full baths and two lanai, one facing the beach and
the other stretching from the bedroom to the living room. Couples can watch
surfers ride the waves beneath them. Suites on lower floors are near the live
Hawaiian music performed at Duke's Canoe Club; those on upper floors have more
expansive views. The rooms have classic Hawaiian themes, such as tropical
hardwoods, displays of shells and feather leis, historical photos and original

On Maui, the Ritz-Carlton
Kapalua has more than 60 suites. Most honeymooners will appreciate one of the
hotel's four Club suites because of the additional amenities and the privacy
they afford. The very top of the line suite at the hotel is its
4,000-square-foot Ritz-Carlton suite. Book the four-night Ultimate Splendor
package, which starts at $3,500 per night and includes butler service, daily
in-room champagne breakfast, one dinner prepared in the suite by a personal
chef and accompanied by a musical duo and hula dancer, a helicopter tour of
West Maui and Molokai and an in-suite couple's lomilomi massage.

Another retreat is the Hotel Hana-Maui in remote
Hana. Steer clients to one of the 16 Oceanfront Sea Ranch Cottages, especially
the Superior,
which has its own spa and an extra-large deck with a private hot tub and an
unobstructed view of the Pacific. The suite itself has floor-to-ceiling windows
and a design that is representative of Hawaii's
plantation-style architecture. This suite category has one bedroom and one
oversized bath with a walk-in shower and a soaking tub overlooking a private
