KapohoKine Adventures Offers New "Farm, Fork and Fire" Tour in Hawaii

KapohoKine Adventures, a tour operator on Hawaii Island that conducts ziplining tours, as well as treks to areas in Kona, Hilo and Hawaii Volcanoes National Park, has launched a new tour, “Farm, Fork & Fire,” focused on sustainability.

Clients start the day with a convenient pick up in a roomy and fuel efficient 2015 Ford Transit Van from KapohoKine Adventures’ newly replaced fleet. KapohoKine Adventures is the only tour operator on Hawaii Island that provides transportation from every hotel, vacation rental or residence in the Kona-Kohala Coast or Hilo districts.

The first stop is Hamakua Mushrooms, where even the mushroom food is grown and harvested locally from nearby eucalyptus trees. After an educational tour and tasting, clients will pack up the mushrooms needed for that evening’s dinner and continue on to Volcano Winery. Here, guests get a behind-the-scene look at the tropical fruit grown to create the specialty Hawaiian wines and teas. Tastings are included and then with a couple bottles in tow to pair with dinner, it is off to the famous Volcano House restaurant.

Incorporating the Hamakua mushrooms, the executive chef conducts a private cooking demonstration of the evening’s menu, which will be enjoyed overlooking Halemaumau crater. Following dinner is a tour of Hawaii Volcanoes National Park, including seeing the crater’s red glow at sunset.

“The idea for ‘Farm, Fork & Fire’ came from our desire to bring more attention to the importance of sustainability in Hawaii — a state that currently imports most of its food,” said Tony DeLellis, co-owner of KapohoKine Adventures, in a written release. “Volcano House restaurant, with 95 percent of its products locally sourced, is the perfect vehicle to show that businesses can still be profitable while supporting local suppliers such as Hamakua Mushrooms and Volcano Winery. We can all be part of creating a more self-sufficient and sustainable future.”

“Farm, Fork & Fire” is roughly 12 hours roundtrip from the Kona-Kohala Coast. Lunch and dinner included. Price is $189 plus tax per person. Discount available for groups of 10 persons or more.
