Foot Doctors Say Honolulu a Top City for Walking
The American Podiatric Medical Association (APMA) placed Honolulu in the top 10 of the best cities in the nation for walking. The APMA presented Mufi Hannemann, mayor of the city and county of Honolulu, with a special award during the APMA’s 2008 Annual Scientific Meeting, held at the Hawaii Convention Center.
“This is a great city, great island, and a great state,” said APMA’s president Ross Taubman, DPM. “Honolulu is one of the nation’s best, most walkable cities and I can honestly say that I’ve been doing a lot of walking and enjoying it tremendously since I arrived.”
Honolulu was ranked seventh in the study that was compiled by the APMA and Prevention magazine. This year’s study was the biggest ever, with nearly 500 cities from across the country judged on more than 13 walking-conducive criteria.
Fiji’s First Residential Spa Opens at Shangri-La Fijian
The newest CHI, The Spa at Shangri-La, has opened at Shangri-La’s Fijian Resort and Spa as the islands’ first spa village with overnight accommodations. CHI, The Spa draws its inspiration from the origin of the “Shangri-La” legend high in the mystical Himalayan mountains, offering a range of therapies based on the ancient healing traditions, philosophies and rituals of China and the Himalayas. The spa’s design, décor and treatment menu reflect the islands’ culture and customs in a location that takes full advantage of the tropical setting. One-third of the spa menu is comprised of treatments using age-old Fijian remedies, ingredients and techniques.
In the June 27 newsletter we incorrectly stated that the theatrical production Waikiki nei is a Cirque du Soleil production, and that the rooftop opens to display surfers suspended overhead. Waikiki nei is not affiliated with Cirque du Soleil, and the performers are suspended from equipment on the venues ceiling, not from an opening in the roof. Visit www.waikikinei.com.
