What's Happening at Starwood's Hawaiian Hotels?

June 13, 2012 By: Jena Tesse Fox

Travel Agent’s New York offices were recently visited by representatives of several Starwood hotels in Hawaii, who gave us a quick overview of what the brand was doing in the islands.

The Sheraton Waikiki has new menus at RumFire and Kai Market. The Royal Hawaiian (popularly known as the Pink Palace) has a new family show, Honu by the Sea, that is available with a pre-theater al fresco dinner.

At the end of the year, a new dining program will launch at the Royal Hawaiian’s Azure restaurant: Azure After Dark will seat up to six guests at a private table where their meal will be prepared in front of them. Local farmers will be brought in to explain about the produce, offering an exclusive foodie experience.

The Moana Surfrider, meanwhile, is getting a new piano wine bar, and the Sheraton Princess will be refreshing its carpeting and getting new beds for the rooms.

The Sheraton Maui is stepping up its efforts to attract destination weddings by limiting the number of wedding slots available. By allowing only one wedding on the property per day, the team will be able to give a greater feel of exclusivity and guarantee that the ceremony can take place wherever the couple chooses. Rodas recommended booking the Ali’I Presidential Suite with its lawn and 180 degree lanai for smaller (maximum 25 guests) ceremonies.

The Westin Ka'anapali Ocean Resort is creating new kids programs (like “mocktails” for teens). The Sheraton Kauai just completed a $16 million renovation that includes its own RumFire restaurant. The Kauai branch reportedly is more open than its Waikiki sister, with room for 240 guests and floor-to-ceiling windows that look out over the Pacific. The restaurant also has two private dining rooms and two 10-seat communal tables in the open kitchen, letting guests watch live demonstrations from Executive Chef Leanne Kamekona.

On Hawaii Island, the Sheraton Keauhou will finish its own renovation in August, and will be renamed the Sheraton Kona Resort and Spa at Keauhou Bay when the work is complete.
