Former Debbie Reynolds Hotel Readies For Implosion

January 29, 2008 By: Travel Agent Central Contributor Travel Agent

Las Vegas’ denizens are getting accustomed to watching hotels crumble. This time it’s the Greek Isles Hotel and Casino—formerly the Debbie Reynolds Hotel—whose new owner plans to close and implode the property to make way for a new mixed-use development.

Clark County commissioners have already approved plans for the development on the 6.1-acre site on Convention Center Drive. Plans call for two towers with 780 rooms, a 77,000-square-foot casino and 71,200 square feet of convention space, retail and restaurants.

Other nearby projects under development include the New York-based Elad Group’s $5 billion Plaza and, last month, Marriott International received county clearance to build a 3,500-room hotel and casino on 14.5 acres neighboring Greek Isles to the east.
