Golden Nugget Undergoes Major Transformation

A project that is being described as the "largest and most dramatic" undertaking for the Golden Nugget Las Vegas in more than 20 years is coming closer to completion.

This historic property in downtown Las Vegas is undergoing a transformation; several components of the project are already completed and unveiled. The 60-year-old hotel and casino is getting new restaurants and amenities such as a spa and salon.

Golden Nugget owner Landry's Restaurants, Inc., one of the nation's largest casual dining, entertainment and hospitality companies, expects its renovation and expansion plan to be completed by this November, according to Sylke Neal-Finnegan, a Golden Nugget spokesperson.

Upgrades include a new spa and salon

"Over the last few years, Las Vegas has evolved into a world-class destination offering much more than gaming, such as dining, shopping, entertainment, spas and golf. Downtown Las Vegas is no exception," says Vince Alberta, vice president of public affairs for the Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority.

"With the destination's popularity at an all-time high, it's natural for resorts in the downtown area to be looking toward the future with expansions and renovations, such as what we're seeing at the Golden Nugget and Lady Luck. As for targeting families, while Las Vegas does offer attractions for visitors of all ages, it is still a destination best enjoyed by adults."

Some of the recently completed portions of the project include the relocation and updating of the poker rooms, featuring 10 smoke-free tables with plush seating, first-class service and 24-hour action in an intimate atmosphere. Also, the fitness area has been updated and expanded with the addition of a spa and salon.

The Spa and Salon

Open to the public, The Spa at the Golden Nugget has private facilities for men and women, providing 10 treatment rooms, fully appointed lounges, herbal steam rooms and saunas.

A manicure and pedicure room, and complete salon and fitness rooms round out the amenities.

Signature massages and body treatments include relaxing and therapeutic massages designed and tailored to each individual guest: Lavender Dreams Ultimate Experience, a full-body scrub, wrap and massage incorporating the essence of wild lavender; Essential Oil Wrap, a full-body wrap incorporating essential oils to relieve muscle tension and promote detoxification and hydration and Sunless Tanning Treatment, which includes gentle exfoliation and application of a botanical sunless tanning lotion.

The salon also has a line of signature, custom facials for men and women, foot and hand treatments, such as the Caviar Mani Kur and Caviar Pedi Kur, make-up application and professional hair care services.

The fitness center—two rooms of state-of-the-art cardiovascular equipment, free weights, core strength and Cybex equipment—provides guests with the opportunity to get a complete physical workout during their stay.

A facility fee of $20 provides access to the fitness center, saunas and lounges. The Spa at the Golden Nugget is open daily from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Treatments are available from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. (Hours of operation are subject to change seasonally.) For reservations, call 702-386-8845.

Other changes include a new location for The Buffet, which will offer increased dining space overlooking the new pool, and an updated array of food items available at the buffet.

There will also be the addition of another Landry's signature concept restaurant, Grotto. A trattoria-style restaurant known for its home-style Italian fare and inviting atmosphere, Grotto will be situated just off of the SouthTower lobby, with a patio area overlooking the pool.

Other additions will include an expanded pool that will incorporate an aquarium design to allow guests to swim inches away from sharks and other marine life, and the relocation of an updated race and sports book, as well as the addition of a new keno room.

Winner of the AAA Four-Diamond Award since 1977, the Golden Nugget Las Vegas is the most luxurious resort in downtown Las Vegas, and consistently receives critical acclaim.

The Golden Nugget offers 1,907 deluxe guest rooms and suites, 38,000 square feet of casino space featuring slot and video poker machines, table games, a race and sports book, a poker room, nightly entertainment, restaurants, a spa and a salon.

In September 2005, Landry's Restaurants, Inc. purchased the nearly 60-year-old hotel-casino.
