Las Vegas Tops Travel Leaders' 2011 Top Destinations List

December 17, 2010 By: Staff

Las Vegas is back on top. At least according to the results of Travel Leaders' annual Travel Trends Survey. The 2011 survey listed Sin City as the top U.S. destination after slipping from the spot for one year, displaced by the more family-oriented city of Orlando.

The travel market as a whole also fared well in the survey, as the number of bookings grew and respondents said their clients would probably up their travel spending soon.

“The trends revealed in this year’s survey lead us to be quite bullish on travel in 2011," said Roger E. Block, CTC, president of Travel Leaders Franchise Group. "Bookings are on the rise as people either feel more stable in their situations or decide they can’t wait any longer to take a needed vacation.”

Just more than half of the 547 owners, managers and travel experts who responded to the survey said their clients would grow their travel spending in the next year. The survey pointed to the most optimistic travel market outlook since late 2006 or early 2007.

The top domestic destinations were as follows:

Rank — Destination (last year)
1 - Las Vegas (2)
2 - Orlando (1)
3 - Alaska cruises (3)
t4 - Honolulu, Hawaii (6)
t4 - Kahului, Hawaii (5)

And the top international destinations:
1 - Caribbean cruises (1)
2 - Cancun (2)
3 - Mediterranean cruises (4)
4 - Riviera Maya (3)
5 - Rome (5)
