According to the Associated Press, people will be flocking to the historic city of Charleston, South Carolina throughout the week to attend the Family Circle Cup, which began on March 30, and concludes on April 7. For those in the neighborhood, the Associated Press recommends ways to cut costs while enjoying the area with its list of 5 free things to do in Charleston, SC. The list includes walks through the Historic District, The Battery, the City Market, the Waterfront Park, and the Ravenel Bridge.  

These suggestions complement others provided by the Charleston Area Convention & Visitors Bureau. On April 5, for example, nearby Johns Island will be offering the final event of a three-part free spring concert series. The last free show will be a performance by Chris Crosby Group, a band that plays an eclectic mix of acoustic, folk, jazz, rock, country, beach and Motown music.

Starting this month, visitors can take a trip to the soon-to-reopen farmers market in Marion Square, which operates Saturdays 8 a.m.-2 p.m. April through December.
