Tucson’s Lodge on the Desert Completes Major Renovation

April 3, 2009 By: Mark Rogers

This month, Tucson’s Lodge on the Desert will put the finishing touches on a 17-month, $15 million expansion and renovation. Sixty-nine guest rooms and suites have been added, and many of the new rooms have beehive gas fireplaces. All 103 accommodations at the lodge have such features and amenities as HDTVs, complimentary high-speed wired and wireless Internet access and Green Natüra bath amenities.

The Tucson boutique hotel’s new lobby now has 16-foot ceilings and original works of art, as well as a wall of history. A new heated outdoor pool has cascading fountains and LED lighting, as well as a whirlpool spa. The Lodge on the Desert’s interior meeting and event space is now more than 3,800 square feet. The largest space, the new Palm Room, accommodates 76 guests for a meeting, 80 for a banquet, and 100 for a reception.

Originally a private residence, Lodge on the Desert debuted as a hotel in 1936 with seven guest rooms. The lodge is a historic example of traditional Southwest architecture, incorporating adobe walls, wood beams, and hand-painted Mexican tiles.
