A major blizzard poised to hit the Northeastern United States Monday and early Tuesday has prompted airlines to cancel flights and waive change fees, USA Today reports.
Approximately 2,140 flights have been cancelled for Monday and 2,178 for Tuesday. Delta has cancelled flights at New York LaGuardia and JFK airports, and United Airlines has announced cancellations at Newark Liberty and Washington Dulles. JetBlue has also cancelled flights at JFK and Boston Logan.
The storm has prompted airlines to waive change fees for passengers with tickets to fly January 26. So far airlines that have issued waivers are Air Canada, Alaska Airlines, American Airlines and US Airways, Delta, Frontier Airlines, JetBlue, Porter Airlines, Southwest Airlines, Spirit Airlines, United Airlines, Virgin America and WestJet.
According to the latest forecast from Accuweather, the worst of the storm is expected to hit Monday night through Tuesday. Snow has already started falling in the Northeast as of Monday morning. New York City and Albany, New York; Stamford, Connecticut; Providence, Rhode Island; Boston and New Bedford, Massachusetts; Concord and Portsmouth, New Hampshire; and Portland, Augusta and Bangor, Maine, are expected to get between one and two feet of snow.
