The New York Times is reporting that British Airways cabin crew members voted Monday, May 10, to hold a further 20 days of strikes beginning May 18. The union, comprised of 13,500 members, will begin the first four-day walkout on that day. This will be followed by a second wave of walkouts from May 24 to 28; May 30 to June 3 and June 5 to June 9.
This is in response to a ballot last week where 81 percent of union members rejected a proposal put forth by British Airways management. The airline's new proposal, while an improvement over others, did not include the restoration of travel benefits, the Times reports.
As a result British Airways says it will be able to maintain a "substantial" part of its intercontinental services to and from Heathrow. Gatwick and London City airports are not expected to be affected.
