ARC Reports Promising Gains in Total Air Sales

The Airlines Reporting Corporation's (ARC) processing data for February 2010 is up by nearly 20 percent in some categories compared to the same month in 2009, with international fares up by 19.47 percent and total sales up by 16.78 percent.

ARC reports that February 2010 also showed significant gains over January 2010, accelerating seasonal expectations and giving both sales and transactions a much needed boost for the first quarter. ARC said this builds on the positive conclusion of the fourth quarter of last year.

Total sales for the month were $6,215,869,654, a 16.78 percent gain. Year-to-date (YTD) sales were $12,165,744,804, a 13.72 percent gain. Total fares for the month were $5,221,477,240, up 17.51 percent and YTD at $10,223,971,608, up 14.27 percent.

International fares of $2,492,218,706 were reported, a 19.47 percent gain, and YTD at $4,876,638,621, a 17.54 percent increase.

Domestic fares were pegged at $2,729,258,534, up 15.78 percent, and YTD at $5,347,332,986, an 11.45 percent increase. Credit card sales grew to $5,564,580,483, an 18.95 percent increase, and YTD to $10,933,073,610, a 15.57 percent gain. Retail locations reporting totaled 15,692, while STP locations totaled 920 and VTC locations reporting totaled 944. Average daily Sales (calendar month) totaled $12,645.
