Top 5 Cheapest Spring Travel Destinations

GlobeIn response to their study indicating American adults spend as much as $197 billion on obligation travel, Hotwire.com has released their top five spring travel destinations that are both cheap and desirable.

The study was conducted among adults 18 years or older in October 2012, and found that, during the previous 12 months, 21 percent of American adults spent as much as $12 billion on trips they felt obliged to take, i.e. weddings and holidays, and anticipated they would do the same in the coming year. To encourage travelers to take “fun” trips in addition to those they feel necessary, Hotwire suggests the following “more fun-on-the-dollar” destinations.

Washington D.C. - Daily rates are down 5 percent from last year, with a sample air/hotel package deal costing around $245 per person.

Chicago – Prices are down 5 percent from last year, making nightly rates average around $81, a steal for this typically expensive city destination.  A sample air/hotel package in the downtown area runs around $375.

Vancouver, BC – Rates are down 8 percent from last year, with rooms averaging $87 per night. A sample air/hotel package is $489.

Dominican Republic – The current average daily rate is $130. A sample air/hotel package runs around $545 per person.

Turkey – The average daily rate in Antalya, a coastal city in southwestern Turkey is a low $35 per night, while Istanbul is running $113 per night. A sample air/hotel package in Istanbul is $855 per person with four-star accommodations.
