Tianguis Report: Live Aqua Cancun to Convert to Adults-Only Resort in May

ACAPULCO, Mexico -- During our coverage of the 36th annual Tianguis Turistico tradeshow, Travel Agent sat down with representatives of Hotelera Posadas and learned that one of the hotel company's most popular resorts, Live Aqua Cancun, will be converting to an adults-only hotel May 15.

"Posadas is all family-friendly resorts, so this is almost like one of our resorts is all grown up now," says Santiago Casillas, assistant director of sales for Hotelera Posadas. "We just felt like it made the most sense since this was a luxury resort that attracted mostly couples anyway."

Eduardo Pinto Espinoza, director of sales for one of Live Aqua Cancun's sister properties, Fiesta Americana Puerto Vallarta, says no bookings for guests under 18 will be allowed after the set date. There will be no physical changes to the property or no official re-branding since the resort was geared toward a more mature clientele anyway, he says.

"The theme of the resort is very sensual, relies heavily on the five senses with luxury restaurants and a top of the line spa, so I think everyone just felt it made sense to make it an adults-only resort," he says.

This is the second major change the popular Cancun resort has made in the last few months. Live Aqua Cancun announced a new all-inclusive concept back in November.

"I think this is about doing something that you really don't see too much of in Cancun," Casillas says. "You don't see to many adults-only resorts in Cancun. And you don't see any other adults-only resort in the Posadas brand so this is new for us too."
