A Tour of The St. James’s Club in Antigua

ANTIGUATravel Agent just did a site inspection of the 299-room, all-inclusive The St. James’s Club resort, the last stop on an Elite Islands Resorts product tour in Antigua.

I’m staying in one of the resorts 48 new Royal Suites, one of the top categories of the resort. The suite has much of the same layout as the suite we stayed at in Galley Bay Resort & Spa. The room has a king-sized bed facing the ocean, a furnished balcony, a rotating flat-screen TV that can either be seen from the living room or from the bed and a spacious bathroom with a shower and a bathtub.

The resort is dominated by the UK market with roughly 90 percent of the guest coming from that region while the U.S. usually makes up anywhere from five to 10 percent of the clients.

The resort is comprised of about 140 Premium Rooms, which is the standard room; about 70 villas, about 15 of which are owned and are not included in the rental pool; and about 70 Beachfront Rooms offering full views of the Atlantic Ocean.

The resort is also home to four tennis courts; six pools, five of which are adults-only and one children’s pool; four restaurants, one of which is Piccolo Mondo, the fine-dining restaurant that is not included in the all-inclusive plan; and a spa and a fitness center. The Spa has two treatment rooms, one single room and one couples room. The tennis court offers instructions from a professional for $60 an hour. Lessons need to be booked 24 hours in advance as does spa reservations. All restaurants also require reservations about a day in advance.

The resort is perfect for families or younger couples.
