Anthem of the Seas Returns to Port Following Pool Incident

anthem of the seasRoyal Caribbean’s Anthem of the Seas returned to port in Bayonne, NJ, Thursday evening, after an eight-year-old boy fell into one of the ship’s pools and remained in the water for eight to 10 minutes before being discovered by cruise line officials, the New York Daily News reports. 

“The ship altered its course and sailed back towards Bayonne, New Jersey, and the boy has been evacuated is being treated at a hospital,” Royal Caribbean said in a statement. “Royal Caribbean’s Care Team is providing support to the guest’s family.”

Anthem of the Seas was sailing a nine-day Caribbean itinerary with stops in Bermuda, St. Martin, Puerto Rico and Haiti, according to the New York Daily News. After the ship docked in Bayonne and the boy was taken to a hospital, the ship left port a second time for its original destinations 2:15 a.m. Friday morning.
