Brisbane Prepares to Host G20 Leaders Summit

It's less than a month to go until the G20 Leaders Summit is held in Brisbane, and the Brisbane Convention & Exhibition Centre is already seeing one of its busiest periods on record, according to CIM Magazine.

The Centre hosted 223 events in August and September, including 35 conventions with 15,000 delegates, a 22 percent increase on the number of conventions during the same two months last year. The BCEC estimates that, over those two months, the conventions boosted the city's economy by $39 million.

BCEC general manager Bob O’Keeffe said there has been increased interest in the Centre because of the G20 and he expects that momentum to build.

Even better, 171 advance visits relating to G20 already have taken place, with "hundreds of contractors" converging on the Centre. This week BCEC’s management team welcomed the G20 Task Force to the Centre to commence operational preparations for what is the largest event ever hosted by the Centre in complexity and scale.
