Caribbean Hotel & Tourism Investment Conference Buzz

In an exclusive interview with Travel Agent, CHTA President Enrique De Marchena Kaluche provided insight into why the Caribbean Hotel & Tourism Investment Conference (CHTIC 2010) is being billed as one of the region’s most important events in 2010, on par with Caribbean Marketplace, a perennial favorite among hoteliers and tour operators.

“While Caribbean Marketplace is crucial for hotels and packagers wishing to capture their fair share of business when tourism begins to rebound during next year’s projected economic recovery, CHTIC is an absolute necessity in order for the Caribbean as a whole to compete with other emerging destinations that are just as hungry for tourism and far less reliant on expensive imports,” De Marchena Kaluche said.

“The value of the hotel marketing and networking opportunities at Caribbean Marketplace is second to none, but the long term future of Caribbean hospitality – and the flow and trajectory of investment capital into our region – will be determined May 4-6 in Puerto Rico,” said the CHTA president.  “It is no secret that the greatest fortunes are made by those who are strategically positioned prior to an economic recovery, and the major players in the future of Caribbean tourism will emerge.”
