Top 10 North American Cities for Hotel Rates

As savvy travelers seek the best deals and bargains when planning their trips, Hotwire.com is assisting with some key information as it releases the results of its August 2009 Hotwire Hotel Rate Report, which features the top 10 cities in North America where hotel rates have dropped the most. It is the company's first report on the best cities in North America to find hotel rates since June.

New York City and Vancouver top the list with the largest reductions in hotel prices compared to the previous year, with Minneapolis placing in the top 10 for the first time.

This is the first time New York has topped the list. In addition, it’s the fourth consecutive month that Vancouver placed in the top five. Also inching up the hotel rate report are sun-soaked cities such as Jacksonville, FL, Las Vegas and Miami.

When compared to the same time last year, the top 10 hotel price reductions for August 2009 include:

   1. New York City
   2. Vancouver, BC
   3. Jacksonville, FL
   4. Las Vegas
   5. Miami
   6. Tampa, FL
   7. San Diego
   8. San Antonio, TX
   9. Oahu, HI
  10. Minneapolis, MN

“The travel downturn is really hitting everyone now, not just the big tourist destinations,” said Clem Bason, president of the Hotwire Group. “Whether you’re traveling to a big city like New York, a beach town like San Diego, or some place a little different like San Antonio, there are deals to be had and during the summer high-travel months no less. ”
