Club Med is planning to open a second ski resort in China in pre-launch mode in August 2012 and for full operations in 2014.
The new resort, currently a Relais & Châteaux site, is in the Guanxi Province in southern China, 45 minutes from the closest international airport and one hour by air from Hong Kong and Guangzhou.
The resort plans to cater primarily to families, and it will pre-open with 116 rooms in a main building and a châteaux with 46 rooms, mostly suites. In 2013 the resort will expand to more than 300 rooms. Additionally, the property will boast two swimming pools, a fitness room and a spa, as well as yoga, tai chi, mountain biking and excursions into the natural areas surrounding the property.
Club Med’s first property in China, the Club Med Yabuli ski-in / ski-out resort, opened in November 2010 in northeastern Heilongjiang province. The company plans to open five locations in China between now and 2015.
