Tourism Cares, the travel industry’s premier charitable organization for tourism preservation, conservation, restoration and education, has opened registration for its annual Tourism Cares Volunteer Day on Friday, September 9, 2011 at the Valley Forge National Historical Park in King of Prussia, PA.

One of the travel and tourism industry’s most highly anticipated giveback events, the Tourism Cares Volunteer Day is held in conjunction with the 9/11 National Day of Service and Remembrance. This one-day event is expected to attract more than 200 travel, tourism, and hospitality industry professionals – from small business owners and front line employees to corporate leaders and college students – to work together and fulfill a common goal; preserving the travel experience for future generations.

This year, Volunteer Day participants will play a crucial role in improving the 3,500 acre landscape as well as some of the historic buildings and facilities.

“As we’re all aware, the National Park Service is egregiously underfunded to address its myriad needs for maintenance,” offers Paul Decker, President of the Valley Forge Convention and Visitors Bureau. “Tourism Cares volunteers will help close a funding gap at Valley Forge with an even more valuable asset…their time, labor, and devotion to preserving one of America’s treasures. We welcome and thank them in advance for what we know will be a fruitful and rewarding experience.”

Travel industry professionals and students studying tourism or hospitality are invited to attend. Registration is $49 per person; $29 for students. Continental breakfast, lunch, and a BBQ celebration are included. Space is limited and advance registration is required. The deadline for registration is Thursday, September 1, 2011. Volunteers are welcome to register online at www.tourismcares.org/events or call 781-821-5990, ext. 206 for more details.

Accommodations are available on a first come – first served basis at the Crowne Plaza Valley Forge, the official hotel for the Tourism Cares Volunteer Day. For reservations, call 610.265.7500 and mention Tourism Cares to receive the special rate for this event.
