The World Travel Agents Associations Alliance (WTAAA), representing travel agents on a global basis, held its first 2009 board meeting in Sun City March 9-10 in conjunction with the American Society of Travel Agents' (ASTA) International Destination Expo and the Association of South African Travel Agents' (ASATA) 2009 convention.
"A wide range of issues were discussed during the two-day period, including matters affecting agents globally: the global recession; the relationship between agents, airlines and IATA; the ongoing reduced remuneration from suppliers; global warming; and, various other issues affecting the travel agency industry," said WTAAA Chair Mike Hatton.
WTAAA represents agents that account for almost 70 percent of global airline sales processed through airline settlement plans. The association seeks to represent travel agents with one voice. WTAAA is incorporated in Belgium as a not-for-profit organization. Its mission is to foster and facilitate the exchange of information and advice on matters of mutual interest to travel agents, including air transport policy, international cruise line policy and international hotel policy.
WTAAA members include: the American Society of Travel Agents (ASTA); the Australian Federation of Travel Agents (AFTA); the Association of Canadian Travel Agencies (ACTA); the Association of South African Travel Agents (ASATA); the European Travel Agents and Tour Operators Associations (ECTAA); the Travel Agents Association of New Zealand (TAANZ); and the Travel Agents Federation of India (TAFI).
