NEWARK, N.J. (AP) — Police say a passenger has been ticketed at Newark Liberty International Airport for passing through an alarmed door and walking onto a jet bridge.

The Port Authority of New York and New Jersey police say it happened at around 8:30 p.m. Wednesday in Terminal C.

Spokesman Joe Pentangelo says a 30-year-old man from West Springfield, Massachusetts, was ticketed for trespassing after he walked onto the jet bridge where the unoccupied United Airlines plane was parked.

Police say the man had been drinking.

Pentangelo says he was a ticketed passenger who had arrived on a flight from Hartford, Connecticut, at around 2 p.m. and missed his connection to Fort Lauderdale, Florida, which left at 8 p.m.

The man was released early Thursday.

The airport was checked and deemed safe.
