Alaska Cruise Season Calendar of Events

 Here is a selection of events happening during Alaska's peak cruise season, check with the local chamber of commerce or convention and visitors bureau for specific dates--perhaps a client will be passing through!

Juneau:

May - Juneau Jazz and Classics Festival, southeast Alaska's largest musical event.

Petersburg:

May - Little Norway festival

May - Salmon Derby, over Memorial Day Weekend, four days of fishing for the renowned King Salmon, with over $30,000 in prizes. Sponsored by the Chamber of Commerce, 907-772-3646.

Fourth of July Community Celebration, during the first week of July, Petersburg's old-time Independence Day celebration takes place with concession and craft booths, parade, carnival games, races, street games and contests, logging events, and of course, a fireworks display at night. Sitka:

July - Fourth of July Celebration, a grand celebration complete with a parade, demonstrations, game and food booths, softball tournament, dance, and fireworks display.

August - 13th Annual Running of the Boots (www.runningoftheboots.org), the annual Running of the Boots Fun Run. Lots of prize categories.  Proceeds benefit Sitka Works! Call Sheila Finkenbinder at (907) 966-3066.

Haines:

May/June - King Salmon Derby, two weekends of fishing competition with great prizes. Contact Kim Larson at 907-766-3885

June - Ride Yukon Motorcycle Event (www.rideyukon.com). The first annual Golden Circle Ride during the Ride Yukon Motorcycle Event begins in Whitehorse and includes an overnight in Haines. Poker Run, BBQ, music. Contact Ride Yukon at 867-456-7433 or e-mail: [email protected].

September - Mardi Gras. Labor Day weekend's Saturday on the town - costume prizes, Cajun music, face painting, and refreshments.
