Building on a partnership that launched in 2015, AmaWaterways and Backroads have announced an expanded lineup of active river cruise departures for 2017. That year the two companies will offer more than 100 sailings with chances for travelers to experience active adventure biking, walking and hiking tours during the cruise.
In 2017 Backroads will launch a new walking tour on the Douro, taking in the gorges and vineyards of Portugal and western Spain while visiting the Douro River Valley, Madrid, Porto and Lisbon. Additionally, every trip will offer the same experience as traditional Backroads tours, including trip leaders, custom titanium or electric bikes and support vans.
Onboard, guests can enjoy AmaWaterways’ twin-balcony staterooms with panoramic views, which come equipped with an on demand entertainment system, complimentary Internet access, movies, a music library and more. Fitness rooms, a salon and massage areas are also available, as well as The Chef’s Table specialty restaurant, a sun deck and a heated pool with a swim-up bar. Complimentary unlimited wine, beer and soft drinks are available with lunch and dinner and complimentary bottled water is provided daily in all staterooms.
Last year AmaWaterways and Backroads debuted river cruise biking trips on the Rhine, Seine and Douro rivers, as well as the “Danube Full Ship Celebration River Cruise Bike Tour” onboard the new AmaViola, which offered guests a chance to bike in the Wachau Valley, join local cyclists on the Donauradweg and enjoy regional specialties in Germany.
