American Queen Steamboat Company has added a new option for clients looking for a quick getaway in 2016: a five-day cruise on the Lower MIssissippi River over the February 18-22 weekend roundtrip from New Orleans.
This Big Band-themed voyage allows guests to experience plantations, gardens, music and cuisine in less than a week. Southern belles will greet the American Queen and its guests at the tree-lined entrance to Oak Alley Plantation.
Highlights of the five-day sailing include:
- Nightly dancing and musical entertainment featuring “The Great American Swing Band”, a 13-piece band which plays classic swing tunes in the original arrangements.
- Lynn Roberts, a former big band singer with the Dorsey Brothers, Harry James and Doc Severinson. While onboard, she will be the headline entertainer for an evening and also present a matinee lecture with stories of her contemporaries, Rosemary Clooney and Helen Forrest.
- Hop-on Hop-off tour of Nottoway Plantation nestled along Louisiana’s Great River Road in Iberville Parish.
- Tour of Oak Alley plantation.
The sailing begins at $799 based on double occupancy. All journeys include a one-night pre-voyage hotel stay, shore tours in all ports, complimentary wine and beer with dinner and a host of other amenities.
