Carnival Cruise Line Tightens Up Loyalty Program

Carnival VictoryCarnival Cruise Line has announced that Gold-tier members in its Very Important Fun Person (VIFP) loyalty program will no longer receive invitations to the line's past guest party.

Effective May 15, Gold members will receive drink vouchers valued at up to $9 instead. The vouchers will be good at any onboard bar on the last evening of each sailing that's five days or longer, and are in addition to the free bottles of water Gold members already receive as a membership perk. The vouchers can be redeemed for coffee, soda or alcoholic beverages.

Platinum- and Diamond-level loyalty club members will continue to receive party invites.

Carnival said it made the decision to limit the size of the past passenger party, which had grown at times to as many as 1,000 passengers, prompting complaints of overcrowding by loyalty members.

The special event with the captain for Diamond-tier members will also continue.
