Carnival Glory Sets Sail Following Temporary Repairs

Carnival Cruise Line’s Carnival Glory has set sail from New Orleans following temporary repairs to its aft dining room after the ship collided with the Carnival Legend in Cozumel, Mexico, on Friday

A Carnival spokesperson tells Travel Agent that guests will receive a one-day pro-rated refund and a $100 per stateroom onboard credit; alternately, they can choose to disembark and receive a full refund. There is no anticipated impact to the ship’s itinerary, which includes calls at Costa Maya, Mahogany Bay (Roatan) and Cozumel, from the incident.

“We are looking forward to providing our guests with a great vacation and we appreciate their patience and understanding,” Carnival said. “Their cooperation has been nothing short of outstanding as we worked through the issues from Friday’s event.”

On Friday the two ships collided while the Carnival Glory was maneuvering to dock. In a video posted to Twitter by Matthew Bruin, the Carnival Legend’s bow appears to tear through a number of windows on the Carnival Glory’s aft section. A version of the video, which has been edited to remove explicit language, is available from NBC 14 News

Six guests onboard the Carnival Glory received minor injuries, and all of them were treated and released by the cruise line’s medical team late last week. Guests on Carnival Legend were not impacted.

In a letter shared with guests on Friday, Carnival said that a formal investigation is underway to confirm the cause of the collision, but it is believed to be due to spontaneous wind gusts and strong currents.
